About this site

This blog will update irregularly, although I hope to be able to commit to an MWF schedule for new posts. I will be discussing how to deploy, configure and operate a home server environment, with a focus on a media and file server as well as generally useful (IMO) web applications.

I will be up front and say that I hope to generate a modest income from this venture, and as such have established a low-cost subscription tier. The benefits are, in the spirit of free and open source, limited - the comments section of my posts is only open to paid subscribers. Polls asking for suggestions for new applications will only be open to paid subscribers. I may or may not occasionally post on Reddit with links to posts here, but do not expect me to follow threads there. If you want to be certain I see your comments, a paid subscription here is the way to make sure.

I will commit to NOT posting actual content behind a pay wall. Contributing to the Starving SysAdmin fund is strictly voluntary.

This blog will also serve as documentation for the home lab services I intend to offer on Fiver - if there is any interest in having me build a lab server, one can be commissioned there.

As a final note, I am well aware that there are professional projects doing some of the things I will be describing. This blog is an attempt to lift the curtain and show how those products perform their magic. That being the case, I am hoping to, in the long term, branch out from simply integrating existing binaries to showing how to build such and environment from source code up, but that is the far future.
